CSX Bridge - Gauley
To eliminate placing barge mounted equipment in the New River, the team utilized a Manitowoc 18000 crawler crane with 320’ of boom and a hanging MAX-ER tray to remove the Truss Spans of the existing rail bridge. This was done due to the instability of the New River due to environmental conditions. It required 62 semi-trailer loads for the mobilization of the crane and MAX-ER tray.
The existing rail bridge consisted of three under-truss spans. The truss spans where removed one at a time and where placed on shore. All three spans where removed in one day. The largest pick being 156’ long and it weighed 332,000 lbs.
On Shore the spans where processed utilizing a Hydraulic Excavator with a second member Shear. The processed steel was placed in roll off boxes and was shipped to a recycler.
